Backup alerts in Microsoft Teams.
Post failed and missing backups to a Teams channel through a Workflows webhook, with a recovery message when the next report is OK.
- Workflows
- A Teams Workflows webhook that posts to a channel.
- Two hosts
- webhook.office.com or logic.azure.com addresses.
- Recovery
- A message when the next report is OK.
- Send test
- Check the webhook before the first alert.
Connect Microsoft Teams.
A channel takes a minute to add. Owners and admins manage channels; everyone sees where each alert went.
- In Teams, create a workflow that posts to a channel when a webhook request is received, and copy its URL.
- In BackupSentinel, open Settings → Alert channels, add a Microsoft Teams channel and paste the Teams webhook URL.
- Choose which clients it covers, or keep it for escalations only.
- Press Send test to see a message arrive.
What it sends.
- Alerts
- Failed and missing backups, and warnings outside quiet hours, with the job and the client.
- Recovery
- A recovery message when the next report is OK, or a resolved message when someone resolves the alert.
- Escalations
- "Not acknowledged" when the channel is used for escalations.
The same rules on every channel.
- One alert per job
- A job with an open problem has one alert. A warning that becomes a failure raises the same alert instead of sending a second one.
- Retries
- A delivery that fails is retried every 10 minutes, up to 5 attempts in all, while the alert is still open.
- Quiet hours
- Warnings are not sent during the workspace's quiet hours; they stay in Needs attention. Failed and missing backups are always sent.
- Scoping
- A channel can take every client's alerts or only some clients', or be kept for escalations only.
- Failures shown
- Each alert shows where it was sent and what failed. A channel with a failed delivery in the last 24 hours appears in Needs attention.
What it does not do.
- Only webhook addresses on webhook.office.com or logic.azure.com are accepted.
- Acknowledging and resolving happen in BackupSentinel, not from Teams.
