Every backup belongs to a client, and every client has a page.
A client holds its backups, the people to call and the target you agreed with it. A device holds what a technician needs at the rack. Clients and devices are unlimited on every plan.
How a client’s month is going, on one page.
The client page opens on this month so far: the numbers the client will see in its report, worked out as reports arrive. Below them sit its open problems and the emails from it that still need a look in the Inbox.
The tabs hold the rest: Backups, Devices, Activity, Contacts and Settings.
- Success rate
- Against the client’s target, flagged when it is below
- Reports
- How many arrived: OK, warning and failed
- Missing
- Reports that never arrived this month
- Incidents
- Problems opened, and how many are still open
- Median recovery
- Over the incidents resolved this month

- The monthly client report on the Reports page
Each client carries the target you promised it.
Give a client an SLA tier, or a custom target that overrides the tier. Success this month is the share of its reports that were OK: OK reports divided by all reports, in your workspace’s timezone. A Warning is not a success.
The Clients list shows it for every client in the This month column, with the target beside it and a mark when a client is below. A client with no reports yet this month shows a dash, not 100%.
| SLA tier | Target |
|---|---|
| Standard | 99.0% |
| Gold | 99.5% |
| Platinum | 99.9% |
| Custom | Any target you set |
Who to call, where reports go, and when to stop watching.
- Contacts
- Name, role, email address and phone for each person at the client. Mark the ones who are on call.
- On-call email
- On the client’s Settings tab, an owner or admin can turn on “Also email this client’s on-call contacts when a backup fails or goes missing”. Critical alerts then go to up to five on-call contacts as well as your channels.
- Client address
- Each client gets its own address for report emails, such as
harbour-it-northwind-dental-. Reports that match no backup yet wait in the Inbox.3f9a1c2b7d4e8f60 @ingest.backupsentinel.io - Pause monitoring
- Until I resume it, For 24 hours, For 7 days, or Until a date up to a year ahead. While paused, no backup turns Missing and no alert opens; reports are still stored and still update each backup’s status. Reactivate starts the clocks again.
- Archive
- For a client you no longer look after: it is not monitored and is hidden from the client list.
What you need at the rack, kept with the backups.
A device is the server, NAS or appliance a backup runs on. Its page keeps the details a technician would otherwise look up in three places, and lists the backups linked to it.
Devices are free and unlimited on every plan: they do not count towards your backup jobs.
- Details
- Hostname, local and remote address, admin console URL, manufacturer, model, serial number, OS or firmware, location, warranty end and notes.
- Types
- Windows Agent, Linux Agent, Veeam Server, SQL Instance and NAS Device, plus up to 30 types of your own.
- Logins
- Up to 25 per device, encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Only owners and admins can reveal a password, and every reveal is written to the activity log.
- Photos
- Up to 12 per device, 5 MB each, as PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF, kept in private storage.
What it does not do.
- Devices are records you keep. BackupSentinel installs no agent and does not connect to them or check that they are up.
- Success this month counts the reports that arrived: a Warning counts against it, and a report that never arrived is not in the rate. It shows in the Missing count instead.
- On-call contacts are emailed for critical alerts only, and only when the client's setting is on. There are no SMS or phone alerts.
- Members and viewers cannot reveal device logins.
Give your first client a page.
Add the client, point its backup software at the client address, and its page fills in as the reports arrive.
